If I had 10 more hours…
With 10 more hours in the day, I could get a lot more done. I could do some laundry. I could wash it and sit there to watch as it dried. Instead, I’d feel that this huge accomplishment deserves a treat – a cuppa! After all, it was an exhausting feat putting two whole loads into the washing machine and pressing a few buttons. I would be forced into watching TV series while the washing machine was doing its job!
As the warm tea would run down my throat and quench my thirst, I’d close my eyes and think about what to make for dinner…
I would be jolted awake an hour later by the volume suddenly becoming loud on the TV, none the wiser about what to cook. I would wonder what to do next. The clothes would still be too wet to fold (ironing isn’t my favourite job!) Maybe I could leave them there till tomorrow to dry properly.
After having slept, maybe I could write something. I enjoy writing poetry and maybe I’ll write a children’s book one day. It would be great to combine the two. Children’s rhyming story book anyone?
With a bit more energy, the bold decision would be made to hoover downstairs. I could do the rest later right? I’d have the extra hours! The clean floor would allow me to fold the already dry clothes in my washed laundry pile. It’s actually a rectangular, velvet soft storage stool. See, I kind of remember what it looks like! After spending a couple of hours folding, I’d feel proud of what I accomplish.
A few minutes later, the kids would come running through the door, throwing their bags on the freshly cleaned floor and rushing to change out of their school uniforms. Thanks kids, I’ll just hoover again! When they would all return from their rooms, I’d ask them what they want to eat. Of course it would be all different answers. Telling them to agree on one thing I would walk over to the window to get a few moments to myself. To breathe. I would be extra tired from my extended day.
Just then my husband would pull in to the driveway and I would be standing there watching him come out of his car and open the passenger side. Maybe he bought a friend? I would view the scene perplexed as instead of somebody stepping out, he’d reach in! Watching him come back out, I wouldn’t be able to see what he had in his hands.
Turning back towards the kids, I’d hear they are still arguing about dinner. Just then the door would fly open and in would walk my husband – with PIZZA! The weight of the world would be lifted from my shoulders! I could cry with joy but I’d have lots to do and not enough hours in the day!
