My Favourite Film
The innocence, playfulness and absolute cuteness, for use of a better word, would leave most soft centred people, including myself, to develop a life-long soft spot for the main character, the film and associated books.
The story itself demonstrates the importance of friendships and how very unlikely personalities and characters can form a lifetime bond. One of my favourite scenes is where the main character ice skates with his best friend. It is heart-warming.
I am torn on whether I would change anything about the story. The only thing I would consider changing is simultaneously the main reason for my devotion to the protagonist. It is an incredibly sad moment where the main character’s mother suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, but no, I wouldn’t change this as it is too integral to the character, his development and the love he gains from his audience in those moments.
I think if very adapted, this could work in a different genre, possibly as a girl-next-door romance but a lot of changes would need to be made and the story may become somewhat unrecognisable.
