Doughnuts
“I’m really not good with things that spin” moaned Becky
“Oh come on Becky you’ll be fine, and he might even talk to us!”
They all squashed into the small round car and waited nervously for the handsome boy with the bomber jacket to make his way round to them. Grinning inanely at each other as the sound of 2 unlimited bounced off their ear drums and reverberated around. He sprang up over their heads.
“Fiver”
They each proudly offered their pound coin which he deftly dropped onto the large denim pouch around his waist before bouncing off to the next cart with barely a nod of acknowledgement.
“Oh my God, did you smell him?”
“Lynx Africa!” They all cried in unison whilst pretending to faint, It had been so strong that Lucy had momentarily lost the saccharine smell of the donuts. She took a long slow inward breath and imagined him walking her home and lending her his bomber jacket. She could feel the weight of his zippo in the pocket as he lay his arm across her shoulder.
She watched as he continued around the ride, deftly moving from car to car despite the fact that the ride had now begun to move.
Lucy looked over to the far side of the waltzer and saw a gaggle of girls in a uniform of tiny black shorts and platform heels. One of the girls had a bag of candy floss which she was suggestively breaking off and popping into her mouth whilst staring intensely into his eyes. Jodie Woodward.
Fit fairground boy seemed to like this and laughed and reached his arm over her, grabbing on to the far edge of the car before giving it a strong pull which sent the car spinning and all the girls screaming except for Jodie who continued to hold his gaze and smiled a rye smile
“scream if you want to go faster”
